Aerospazio Tecnologie S.r.l. is a research and development company focusing on space simulation, spacecraft, electric rocket propulsion technology and electromagnetic plasma diagnostics.
The Company was set up in March 2000 with the aim of providing high qualified test services in the fields of Electric Propulsion and Thermal Vacuum. To this aim, special test facilities have been built together with their associate diagnostics and services. Aerospazio customers include major European and international prime companies as well as ESA and other government agencies.
The headquarters and most of the laboratories of Aerospazio Tecnologie are located in Rapolano Terme, Tuscany. A branch office with additional laboratories has been set up in Collesalvetti since 2018; the latter was the location of the previous iFACT activity and will be used for the current project.
The main activity involving Aerospazio Tecnologie within the iFACT-MP project concern the consolidation of the knowledge already acquired on iodine fed trusters testing, turning it into a new test facility design, capable of operating with thrusters up to 5 kW in safe and reliable conditions. The design of the new test facility will include the thruster plume diagnostics and the thrust measurement system. The system will be assembled in a new dedicated laboratory and used for a characterization of the iodine fed Electric Propulsion System, including a duration test.
