The 2nd 2024 issue of the EASN - European Aeronautics Science Network #newsletter is out!

The iFACT-MP initiative, short for iodine Fed Advanced Cusp field Thruster for Mid-Power, that launched in the beginning of the year, is a 24-month project funded by the European Union. Its primary objective is to enhance and solidify Europe's leading role in iodine EP (Electric Propulsion).

Part 5 - University of Pisa

The University of Pisa is one of the oldest European Universities with a long-standing tradition in aeronautics and space. 

The Aerospace Division of the Department of Industrial and Civil Engineering and the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry (DCCI) are directly involved in this project. DICI and DCCI have collaborated for more than five years at the development of an iodine propellant management system for electric propulsion applications, through a past ESA Action.

iFACT-MP Website Launch

Exciting news! The all-new iFACT-MP website has just launched! Discover how the team aims to develop a robust iodine-fed thruster for the 3-5kW range, by focusing on key components like the Advanced Cusp Field Thruster (ACFT), the fluid system, the neutralizer and the PPU breadboard.

iFACT-MP sets its goal to scale up the ACFT and develop the necessary fluidic components to realize a functional iodine Electric Propulsion (EP) subsystem and enhance its maturity.

Part 4 - Aerospazio Tecnologie S.r.l

Aerospazio Tecnologie S.r.l. is a research and development company focusing on space simulation, spacecraft, electric rocket propulsion technology and electromagnetic plasma diagnostics.

Aerospazio, with almost 25 years of experience, aims to provide high qualified test services in the Electric Propulsion and Thermal Vacuum fields, providing special test facilities, with their associate diagnostics and services. Its customers include major European and international prime companies as well as ESA and other government agencies.

iFACT-MP KOM

The iFACT-MP project officially launched on January 1st,2024 and will be running for the following 24 months.

The project aims to strengthen and establish Europe’s predominant position in iodine EP and its mission is to develop an iodine fed thruster subsystem for the 3-5 kW range and work on all the critical building blocks required to enable the realization of an iodine EP subsystem.
